This one’s an oldie, but a goldie. Set in the early 1900’s, this story is about a little boy and a bear. At the beginning of the story the little boy named Johnny walks around moping that his family is the only one without a bear skin hanging out to dry. As the story progresses and he actually meets a bear, his feelings start to change. The bear quickly finds a home with Johnny’s family but before long becomes the town nuisance. Johnny is faced with a hard decision. Will he face it like a man? Will the biggest bear be killed?
The story ends with an unexpected happy ending.
It’s interesting as an adult to read this book and see how much society has changed since it was written!
This is a story that you won’t want to skip.
