Owls in the Family

Owls in the Family

By Farley Mowatt

I read this a few weeks ago. It’s a real boy book. A slightly-fictionalized autobiography, it’s the story of how a boy ends up with two pet owls, Wol and Weeps, and their subsequent escapades… Set in the prairies of Alberta, it will give you a real taste of country life where kids get around on bikes, discover caves, deal with small-town bullies, and cool off in the local swimming hole/creek. Two unwanted expressions that occur once each in this thin paperback book are: “as though the devil were after him” and “those black devils” in reference to crows.  Intended as a children’s book, adult bird-lovers and animal-lovers will also enjoy this humorous story!

Paperback, 91 pages
