Need a book to read on a hot summer day…with a cup of red bush tea?
Try THE NO. 1 LADIES’ DETECTIVE AGENCY. It was a slow start for me several years ago, but 14 books into the series later, I am still enjoying the main character’s insight into human nature. I love understanding the way people think, and I love the main characters reflections on life that remind you to slow down. Her assistant as well as the apprentice mechanics provide a dose of humour, and I think it’s a family trait that I can laugh about hypothetical events….did anyone else ever notice that Mma Ramotswe does this quite frequently? The downside is that the author portrays the main character as church-going, but she knows so little about true Christianity and faith. Once again, it’s a look into the hearts and lives of others and a learning experience…

This series is awesome – brings you to a whole other world where the pace of life is slower but the book are in no way boring.

The way to “read” this series is to listen to them on audio book. Get them from your library. If you are a speed reader like me, you will get much more from them this way. You will learn how to pronounce the names, and the mellifluous african accent just adds so much to the book.
